The Dakota Wesleyan University Tiger Athlete of the Week is junior Ashley Bray, it was announced by the DWU athletic department Wednesday.
Against Mount Marty College on Feb. 1, Bray scored her 1,000th point of her career. It came on a 3-pointer in the opening minutes of the game where she scored five points as DWU won, 73-51. Following a career night, Bray helped push the Tigers past Midland University to a 67-59 victory on Saturday. She scored 11 points to go along with five rebounds.
The Anoka, Minn., native capped off the week with her best performance of the week against Briar Cliff University on Wednesday. She finished with a 20-point, eight-rebound performance on the road to push the Tigers to an 83-65 victory.
Bray shot 11-of-11 from the free-throw line in the three contests combined to help push her season percentage to 94.3 percent from the charity stripe, ranking second in the NAIA. She currently leads the team with 12.6 points per game and ranks 17th nationally in 3-point field goal percentage at 41.4 percent. Bray has netted 1,033 career points, just three points shy of breaking the top-20 scoring list in program history.
The No. 12 DWU Tigers host the No. 2 Concordia University Bulldogs at 2 p.m. on Sunday at the Corn Palace in Mitchell, S.D.
