The Dakota Wesleyan University Tiger Athlete of the Week is Dillon Turner, it was announced by the DWU athletic department Monday.
Turner had a career day Saturday against the Midland University Warriors. He broke the school record for passing yards in a career with 9,321. The record was previously held by Temple, Texas, native Jonathan Bane who recorded 9,224 career passing yards. Turner also set a new career high for passing yards in a game with 446 yards. In the victory, Turner finished 28-of-35 with 446 passing yards, 16 rushing yards and six total touchdowns.
The Salem, Ark., native was also named Great Plains Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week for his efforts in the DWU victory.
Turner ranks first in the NAIA in total offense with 2,457 total yards, first in total offensive yards per game with 409.5 yards and first in total passing with 2,017 yards. He also ranks seventh nationally in passing yards per game with 336.2 yards and seventh in total scoring with 54 touchdowns on the season.
Turner and the Tigers hit the road as they take on the No. 4 Morningside College Mustangs at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in Sioux City, Iowa.
