MITCHELL, S.D. – The Dakota Wesleyan University Tiger Athlete of the Week is Kamberlyn Lamer, it was announced by the DWU athletic department Thursday.
Lamer became the first track and field athlete to win a National Championship in any event in school history. The Hartford, S.D., native won the pentathlon event this past weekend in Brookings, S.D. Lamer placed top-five in four out of the five events in the pentathlon.
In the 60-meter hurdles, Lamer set a time of 8.95 seconds, placing second in the event. Lamer placed first in the high jump event with a mark of 5-5 feet, and also finished second in the long jump with a leap of 18.5.75. The senior finished out the day with the 800 meters, where Lamer finished in fifth place with a time of 2:28.71 to secure the individual National Championship. Lamer was named 2019 NAIA women's field National Athlete of the year and also finished as an All-American this season.
The DWU track and field teams will begin the outdoor season on March 22 at the Wildcat Classic in Wayne, Neb.
