DWU basketball to host ninth annual DWU/Culver’s Classic

MITCHELL, S.D. – The Dakota Wesleyan University athletic department is excited to announce the teams that will be competing in the ninth annual DWU/Culver’s Classic on Feb. 9 and 10 at the Corn Palace in Mitchell, S.D.

MITCHELL, S.D. – The Dakota Wesleyan University athletic department is excited to announce the teams that will be competing in the ninth annual DWU/Culver's Classic on Feb. 9 and 10 at the Corn Palace in Mitchell, S.D.

For the third-straight year, the classic will begin with seven girls' high school basketball games on Friday. Beginning at 1:30 p.m., Howard and Burke/South Central will hit the court. At 3 p.m., Parkston will play Pine Ridge in a Class 'A' matchup and Corsica-Stickney will have a 4:30 p.m. showdown with Bridgewater-Emery. Rounding out the final three games of the day, Sioux Falls Christian will take on McCook Central/Montrose at 6 p.m., and Tripp-Delmont/Armour will face off with Avon at 7:30 p.m. In the finale at 9 p.m., Hanson squares off with De Smet.

"We are extremely excited to be hosting the Ninth Annual DWU/Culver's Classic," DWU Athletic Director Jon Hart said. "None of this would be possible without the help of our generous sponsors and supporting communities. These two days are going to feature some outstanding matchups and some of the best teams and players on the state."

The boys' portion will be begin on Saturday, Feb. 10 and games will follow one hour and 30 minutes after the tip-off of the first contest. The teams participating in this year's DWU/Culver's Classic include seven Class 'A' schools followed by nine Class 'B' schools. Teams are listed in no particular order, beginning with Class 'A' schools: Aberdeen Roncalli, Dell Rapids, Mount Vernon/Plankinton, Parker, Pine Ridge, Sioux Falls Christian, St. Thomas More, Bridgewater-Emery, Canistota, Colman-Egan, Corsica-Stickney, De Smet, Irene/Wakonda, Freeman Academy/Marion, Sanborn Central/Woonsocket and White River.

The boys' pairings will be announced on the KMIT Saturday Morning Coaches' Show with Tim Smith on Saturday, Feb. 3. Tickets go on sale Jan. 1 at the Corn Palace Box Office. Courtside and reserved seating will be 20 dollars each day, while general admission for each day will be 10 dollars for an adult, five dollars for a student and children 10 and under get in for free.

4:30 p.m. – Corsica-Stickney vs. Bridgewater-Emery

6 p.m. – Sioux Falls Christian vs. McCook Central/Montrose

7:30 p.m. – Tripp-Delmont/Armour vs. Avon

9 p.m. – Hanson vs. De Smet
