McClanahan named Dakota Wesleyan Director of Sports Information
MITCHELL, S.D. – Dakota Wesleyan University is proud to announce the hiring of Ian McClanahan as the Director of Sports Information, Director of Athletics Jon Hart announced Thursday.
MITCHELL, S.D. – Dakota Wesleyan University is proud to announce the hiring of Ian McClanahan as the Director of Sports Information, Director of Athletics Jon Hart announced Thursday.
After graduating from DWU in 2016, he returned to his alma mater in January of 2017, to obtain his Masters of Educational Policy and Administration, and will receive his degree this weekend. McClanahan worked as a graduate assistant in the sports information department for a year, before taking over as the Interim Sports Information Director on Jan. 22, 2018.
During his interim stint, McClanahan worked with the women's basketball team during the national championship run in early March, while simultaneously covering the men's basketball team at the national tournament in Sioux Falls, S.D. He created postseason media guides and covered social media platforms for both teams, as well as writing post-game recaps. Following the basketball tournaments, McClanahan was in charge of game-day operations for baseball and softball and created media guides for both teams.
"We are very excited to officially name Ian our next Director of Sports Information," Hart said.
McClanahan, a Brandon, S.D., native, attended DWU from 2012-2016, where he received his Bachelors of Arts in sports management. He was also a member of the Tiger football team. McClanahan was forced to hang up the pads his senior season due to injury. He helped Head Coach Ross Cimpl with game-day operations and day-to-day operations during practice with the defensive backs. He was a member of the 2015 Tiger football team who finished the regular season 9-2, the second-best finish in school history.
"Ian has the skillset and knowledge to promote our department and programs at the highest level," Hart commented. "He has learned so much as a graduate assistant and in the interim role to prepare him for this position. This position seems to evolve and become more demanding each year and Ian continues to succeed."
McClanahan is responsible for game-day operations, press releases, team statistics, as well as game-day graphics and social media content.
