 Ian McClanahan took over as the Director of Sports Information at Dakota Wesleyan University on May 3, 2018. McClanahan took first, second and third place in the "Sport Brochure" section of the NAIA-SIDA Publications & Media Contest. He was also the recipient of the Walt McAlexander Sport Brochure Award. The following year, McClanahan received 10 top-10 awards in the 2018-19 NAIA-SIDA Pulbications & Media Contest, tied for the most awards across the NAIA. He took third and fourth place in the "Sport Posters" category; fourth, sixth and eighth place in the "Schedule Cards" category; fourth and sixth place in the "Infographics – Game Day" category and seventh, eighth and ninth place in the "Best Splash Page/Wallpaper" category.

 In the winter and spring of 2019, McClanahan covered a pair of national championship performances by Kamber Lamer with the DWU track and field team. She won the Pentathlon national championship during the indoor track and field season, while taking the heptathlon national championship in the outdoor track and field season.

 Prior to taking over full time, McClanahan was named interim SID from January 2018 - May 2018. In the first few months of his interim stint, McClanahan became a 2018 National Champion Sports Information Director for women's basketball. He covered the 2018 NAIA Division II Women's Basketball National Championship team as the Tigers were crowned national champions in March of 2018.

 Before being named the head of the Sports Information Department, McClanahan worked as the graduate assistant for the same department. He assisted with live stats during games, press releases and researching team and player statistics. The Brandon, S.D., native received his master's degree in Educational Policy and Administration in 2018 from DWU, as well as obtaining his bachelor's degree in sports management from DWU in 2016. McClanahan played three seasons of football for the Tigers. He was forced to hang up the pads in 2015 due to injury, but remained on the team as a student coach. He helped head coach Ross Cimpl with game-day operations and practice facility upkeep. He was a member of the 2015 Tiger football team who finished the regular season 9-2; the second-best finish in school history.

 McClanahan is responsible for the creation of media guides, directing athletic team photoshoots, game-day management, athletic website management and team statistics.
