BROOKINGS, SD – The South Dakota State track and field teams are set to host the annual SDSU Indoor Classic on Feb. 10 and 11 at the Sanford-Jackrabbit Athletic Complex.
 
Action will kick off on Friday evening at 4:30 p.m. with four running events. Most of the competition is set for Saturday where nearly 1,400 athletes from over 40 schools will be competing. Field and running events are each scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
 
LAST TIME OUT: The South Dakota State University track teams made the most of a busy weekend across three meets at Nebraska, Iowa State and South Dakota, earning multiple new personal bests and top 10 finishes.
 
FRANK SEVIGNE HUSKER INVITATIONAL (LINCOLN, NE)
The success from day one of the Husker Invitational carried over into Saturday as Pierre Lear again broke his own school record in the 60-meter hurdle finals. He took third place in the event after clocking a 7.85, which is also now a new PR and a new fastest mark in the Summit League. This is the fifth time Lear has broken his own record this season.
 
Brielle Dixon took seventh place in the 60-meter hurdle finals with a time of 8.66 as Ashtyn Bertram finished in 20th place overall of the 200-meter dash with a 26.11.
 
SDSU's A team won the women's 4x400-meter relay after clocking a 3:49.26, now the sixth-fastest mark in school history.
 
In the men's 200-meter dash, Jared Wipf finished in 15th place overall with a time of 22.28 while Evan Henderson placed 21st with a 22.55.
 
The men's 4x400-meter relay team finished in sixth place with a time of 3:17.55.
 
USD ALUMNI MEET (VERMILLION, SD)
Several Jackrabbits had career-best days in Vermillion, like Jaiden Boomsma, who clocked a personal best time of 7.51 in the 60-meter dash prelims. The mark is now third on the all-time list. She also won the women's long jump with a personal best leap of 19-10.25, which now puts her in second in the school record books.
 
Jordan Stoddard also qualified for the finals of the long jump and took eighth with a personal best 18-01.50. Katelyn Darnell (17-02.75) also earned a PR in the event.
 
Savannah Risseeuw ran an 8.99 in the 60-meter dash finals for a fifth place finish after clocking an 8.98 in the prelims to win her heat.
 
In the women's 400-meter dash, four Jackrabbits finished right in a row, led by Abby Hughes in sixth place with a time of 1:02.12. Emily Rystrom took seventh in 1:02.20, Brielle Ruen was eighth with a 1:03.26 and Paige Kuchel came ninth in 1:04.23.
 
Laura Bogue finished in eighth place overall in the women's 800-meter run with a time of 2:23.76 as Greta Johnson took ninth place in the pole vault with a clearance of 10-04.75.
 
Kadense Dooley ran a 5:25.42 for a new PR and eighth place while Abby Deutsch took 10th with a personal best 5:30.30. Emma Gonzalez came 11th with a time of 5:32.24 and Hannah Spoden clocked a personal best 5:42.60 for 16th place.
 
Madison Kizer finished in sixth place in the high jump after clearing the height of 5-02.25. Layne Kirkendoll tied for seventh with a 5-02.25, Taylor Jocum took ninth with a 5-00.25, Hadley Carlson cleared 5-00.25 for tenth and Claire Galvin tied for 11th with a 4-10.25.
 
Annie Wendt grabbed ninth place in the triple jump with a distance of 36-04.75 as Sydney Mouw finished 12th with a 33-04.00.
 
Faith Leiseth took runner-up in the shot put with a throw of 48-00.50 while Meghan Hettinga finished fifth with a mark of 43-08.50 and Amanda Pettersson was sixth with a 42-07.00.
 
Marianne Robin led SDSU in the weight throw with her throw of 49-03.75 for eighth place. Mildred Young was 12th with a 44-06.00 and Kirsten Kilker finished 15th with a 40-07.00.
 
The 4x200-meter relay of Rystrom, Jessica Boekelheide, Kuchel and Elaina Rice took fifth place in 1:49.38.
 
Drew Olson finished in seventh of the men's 60-meter dash finals with a 7.07 while Joey Anders took fifth overall in the men's 400-meter dash in 51.72 seconds.
 
Tyler O'Neill finished in 14th place of the 800-meter run with a time of 2:04.34.
 
Conner Powers claimed seventh place in the high jump with a clearance of 6-06.25 while in the pits, Tristin Hanna was runner-up in the triple jump with a distance of 45-04.25
 
Tre Manning took second place in the men's long jump with a leap of 23-03.50 as Aiden Giffin jumped a personal best 21-00.75 for sixth place. Hanna took ninth place with a 19-08.25.
 
Matthew Katz cleared 15-11.50 for sixth place in the pole vault while Jaden Peters finished seventh with a 15-11.50 and Ryan Karajanis took ninth with a personal best 15-05.50.
 
Dominick Etherington won the men's shot put with a personal best 60-03.75, now the second best mark in school history, as Wyatt Seagren took second with a 53-04.25 for a PR. Brogan Seier claimed fifth with a throw of 49-02.50 and Hunter Wallster finished sixth with a personal best 42-01.50.
 
Wallster then won the men's weight throw with a 63-03.50 for a new PR and the fifth best mark in school history. Etherington took second with a personal best mark of 61-09.00, which is now seventh in the record books. Calob Jones threw a 59-02.25 for third and a new personal best and Ethan Fischer claimed fourth with a distance of 58-06.00 for a new PR.
 
The men's 4x200-meter relay team of Olson, Ty Kadlec, Anders and Caden Plasier ran a 1:34.00 for third place.
 
IOWA STATE CLASSIC (AMES, IA)
The distance runners had a strong showing on the track in Iowa, starting with the women's mile. Grace Waage took runner-up with a personal best time of 4:54.61, which now places her in seventh on the all-time list.
 
Nicole Greyer claimed fourth in 4:58.04 for a PR and Leah Hansen finished just outside of the top five in sixth place with a time of 4:59.26. Caitlin Bright (15th, 5:18.99), Nina Dawson (16th, 5:22.27) and Malorie Schmoll (17th, 5:29.63) rounded out the SDSU finishers.
 
Mya Kizer won the 3000-meter run in a personal best 9:55.24 while Hansen took runner-up in 9:55.55. Kayla Christopherson clocked a 10:02.73 for seventh place and a new PR and Emma Ecker finished eighth with a personal best time of 10:02.94.
 
In the 800-meter run, Tori Glazier led the Jacks with a third place finish in 2:13.43. Claire Beckman took fourth in 2:14.56 and Harley Fischer was seventh with a time of 2:18.36.
 
Andrew Moeller took 19th place overall in the men's 800-meter run with a time of 1:54.95 while in the mile, Eli Salisbury came 17th in a personal best 4:10.98 and Will Lohr finished 20th in 4:13.27 for a new PR.
 
Of the nine Jackrabbits who competed in the men's 3000-meter run, seven placed in the top 10, led by Daniel Burkhalter's second place finish in 8:06.94. His mark is a new personal best and is now third in school history. Tom Breuckman also leapt to sixth on the all-time list with his personal best and third place time of 8:09.96.
 
Ben Olson clocked an 8:11.88 for fourth place, Joseph Minor-Williams was fifth with a time of 8:13.29 and Max Selbach finished sixth in a personal best 8:15.20. Carter Knaus (eighth, 8:17.02, PR), Cody Larson (10th, 8:19.92, PR), Kyle Nordling (21st, 8:28.53) and Mason McDonald (35th, 8:47.64) rounded out the finishers.
 
ETHERINGTON HONORED BY SUMMIT: Dominick Etherington was selected as the TicketSmarter Summit League Men's Field Peak Performer of the week, league officials announced Tuesday.
 
Etherington won the shot put at the USD Alumni Meet with a personal best throw of 60-03.75, which places him in second on the all-time list for SDSU and in first of the Summit League standings. He also took second with a career best mark of 61-09.00 in the weight throw that now puts him seventh on the school record list and third on the league performance list this season.
 
Etherington is the latest Jackrabbit to earn the weekly accolade this season, joining two-time honoree Pierre Lear (Dec. 6 and Dec. 13) and Reid Pierzinski (Jan. 30)
 
REGIONAL RANKINGS: The third Division I Track and Field rankings of the season determined by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association were announced earlier this week with the Jackrabbit men jumped one spot to 19th and the women maintained their spot at 23rd.
 
MEN PICKED FIRST, WOMEN THIRD IN PRESEASON POLL: The Jackrabbit men were picked to win the Summit League again this year while the women were placed third in the preseason indoor track and field poll announced by Summit League officials Wednesday.

A LOOK AHEAD: SDSU will simultaneously host the Last Chance Meet and the First Chance Youth Meet on Feb. 18 at the SJAC. Start times are set for 1:15 p.m. and 10:45 a.m., respectively.
