MAYVILLE, N.D. – The Dakota Wesleyan University baseball team headed north Tuesday and battled Mayville State University of the North Star Athletic Association for a non-conference doubleheader in Mayville, N.D.
The Comets were victorious in both games, 10-4 and 7-0.
DWU held on for a 2-0 lead until the Comets exploded for three runs in the bottom of the fourth and six runs in the bottom of the fifth, keeping DWU off the base paths for the rest of the game.
Landon Neugebauer (Mitchell, S.D.) went 3-for-3 with two runs, while Zach Uttecht (Pierce, Neb.) continued his dominant performance at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBIs.
Junior Steven Sagasty (Pacifica, Calif.) took the loss after tossing four innings, allowing three earned runs off three hits, while striking out four and walking four.
The Comets (29-6) cruised to victory in game two, propelled by three runs in the sixth and eighth innings, including four errors from the Tiger defense.
Tyler Waddle (Huron, S.D.) and James Williams (Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada) had the lone hits for DWU.
Dillon Campbell (Ashland, Neb.) was dealt the loss on the mound after tossing four innings, allowing two earned runs off three hits, while walking a batter.
The Tigers (14-18, 9-5 GPAC) welcome Dordt College for a Great Plains Athletic Conference doubleheader at 4 p.m. Thursday at Cadwell Park in Mitchell.
