Harter, Neilan homer, Tigers split with Dordt
MITCHELL, S.D. – Senior Jared Neilan (Pierre, S.D.) gave the Tigers an offensive boost in Great Plains Athletic Conference play Thursday at Cadwell Park in Mitchell, S.D. The Tigers took the opener 5-3, while Dordt College took the finale 7-1.

MITCHELL, S.D. – Senior Jared Neilan (Pierre, S.D.) gave the Tigers an offensive boost in Great Plains Athletic Conference play Thursday at Cadwell Park in Mitchell, S.D. The Tigers took the opener 5-3, while Dordt College took the finale 7-1.
Neilan put the first run on the scoreboard for DWU in the bottom of the first, recording his team-leading seventh home run of the season. The power-hitting outfielder went 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI, while Peyton Price (Norfolk, Neb.) had a clutch pinch hit two RBI single that put the game out of reach for the Defenders.
Freshman Dominique Boerger (Milbank, S.D.) tossed five innings, allowing no earned runs on five hits, while walking two but didn't factor in the decision. Senior William Lutjen (Miller Park, N.Y.) tallied his first win of the year in relief.
Game Two didn't go quite as planned for DWU after giving up three runs in the first and seventh innings. The Tigers recorded four hits in the loss, led by a home run from Reed Harter (Colome, S.D.) and a double from Branden Oropeza (San Francisco, Calif.)
Patrick Whetham was tagged with the loss after going six and two-thirds innings, allowing seven earned off 12 hits, while striking out six and walking two.
The Tigers (15-19, 10-6 GPAC) visit Dordt for another GPAC doubleheader with first pitch slated for 1 p.m. Saturday in Sioux Center, Iowa.
