Tigers split against in-state rival
YANKTON, S.D. – The Dakota Wesleyan University baseball team took the first game against Mount Marty College, 5-2 but fell in the second game by a score of 4-1, in Great Plains Athletic Conference action Tuesday in Yankton, S.D.

YANKTON, S.D. – The Dakota Wesleyan University baseball team took the first game against Mount Marty College, 5-2 but fell in the second game by a score of 4-1, in Great Plains Athletic Conference action Tuesday in Yankton, S.D.
The Lancers (17-9, 3-3 GPAC) took an early 2-0 lead in the first inning after a two-run single. Both teams were scoreless through the next two innings. In the top of the fourth, Chandler Bakley (Martin, S.D.) recorded a single, bringing a runner home.
In the next inning the Tigers (6-13, 2-4 GPAC) tied the game thanks to a Reed Harter (Colome, S.D.) single. DWU took the lead after Zack Puetz (Volga, S.D.) smacked a double, bringing Bakley home. The Tigers added two insurance runs in the top of the seventh inning after Wes Anderson (Duluth, Minn.) and JT Miller (Sioux Falls, S.D.) hit a one-run single, giving DWU the victory.
Anderson finished the game 1-for-1 with an RBI and two runs, as Bakley went 2-for-3 with an RBI. Puetz and Harter each went 2-for-4 at the plate with an RBI. Gavin Reichmuth (Chandler, Ariz.) picked up the win on the mound after pitching five innings, striking out two batters and allowing just two earned runs.
The second game of the day saw MMC jumping out to an early 1-0 lead in the first inning. But, the Tigers tied the game in the fourth after Puetz grounded out to second base, allowing Anderson to come home. However, the Lancers used a three-run sixth inning to take the second game from DWU.
Puetz led the way after going 1-for-2 with an RBI, while Bakley finished 2-for-3. Hunter Christopherson (Vermillion, S.D.) was tabbed with the loss after pitching five innings and striking out a batter, while Dillon Stadlman (Parkston, S.D.) pitched one inning for the Tigers.
The Tigers host GPAC opponent Dordt College for their home opener at 1 p.m. Friday at Cadwell Field in Mitchell, S.D.
