TUCSON, Ariz. – The Dakota Wesleyan University baseball team battled NCAA Division II Opponent, University of Concordia St. Paul in a doubleheader on Sunday. DWU dropped the first contest 7-0 and fell in the second game, 6-0.
The first game was a low-scoring pitching affair for most of the game. Gavin Reichmuth (Chandler, Ariz.) allowed just one hit through the first five innings. Despite the impressive pitching, the Tiger (1-7) offense was unable to reach home.
The Golden Bears broke the scoreless streak in the bottom of the sixth inning with a seven-run frame. The inning was enough as DWU could not tie the game in the top of the seventh inning.
Tyler Torres (Novato, Calif.) and Cole Gassman (Canova, S.D.) each finished 1-for-3 at the plate. Reichmuth pitched five and a third innings and struck out four batters in the loss.
CSP began the second game with a run in the top of the third inning to take a 1-0 lead. Later, the Golden Bears strung together a five-run sixth inning to hold a 6-0 lead. The sixth inning was enough for CSP as the Tigers could not muster a run in the game.
Gilberto Rodriguez (San Antonio, Texas) finished 1-for-3 at the plate, while Wes Anderson (Duluth, Minn.) went 1-for-2. Gunnar Johnson (Gresham, Ore.) took the loss on the mound as he pitched five innings, striking out five batters and allowing one earned run.
DWU plays North Central University at 4 p.m. tomorrow in Tucson, Ariz.
