MITCHELL, S.D. – Stepping out of conference play, the Dakota Wesleyan University baseball team picked up a victory over in-state opponent, Presentation College 8-4 Wednesday at Drake Field in Mitchell, S.D.
Neither team scored in the opening two innings. The Saints (10-9) scored first in the top of the third frame with a sacrifice fly to left field. Two batters later, PC added another run to make it a 2-0 game.
The Tigers (10-13) were finally able to break through in the sixth inning thanks to a Drew DeMers (Winner, S.D.) two-run single to kick-start the frame. Reed Harter (Colome, S.D.) smacked a two-run double to centerfield to give DWU the lead.
Later in the inning, Carter Gullickson (Dell Rapids, S.D.) grounded out to the first-baseman that brought a run home. Joe Hanisch (Hartford, S.D.) finished the inning with a single to left field, bringing home another run.
The Saints added another run in the top of the seventh inning, but DeMers added an RBI in the bottom half of the inning to keep PC at a distance.
