DWU football adds 10 recruits for 2017 season
MITCHELL, S.D. – With the 2017 spring football season coming to an end, Dakota Wesleyan University head football coach, Ross Cimpl has added a few final recruits to the roster for next season.
MITCHELL, S.D. – With the 2017 spring football season coming to an end, Dakota Wesleyan University head football coach, Ross Cimpl has added a few final recruits to the roster for next season.
After signing 33 players on National Signing Day, Cimpl inked 10 more recruits from around the country. Three recruits from Minnesota and one from Nebraska, South Dakota, Alaska, Nevada, California, Florida and Iowa.
"We had a great group of kids we announced at signing day," Cimpl said. "To be able to add this amount of talent to our roster after that point is tremendous. There are guys in this group that are going to make an immediate impact on our program on and off the field. This group really adds to an already outstanding class."
Freshman, 5-8, 170, Norfolk, Neb., Norfolk Senior High School, Running Back
Simmons looks to add depth to the Tiger football roster at running back for the 2017 season. He was a two-time letterwinner in football and a one-year starter for the Norfolk Senior High Panthers. Simmons also participated in track for two seasons.
Freshman, 5-10, 200, Braham, Minn., Braham Area High School, Linebacker
Anderson comes to DWU from Braham, Minn., where he played for Braham Area High School for four seasons. He was a four-time varsity letter recipient and a three-year starter for the Bombers. He was named to the All-District team his senior season and was a six-time MVP of the offensive and defensive lines. Anderson made it to the section championship four years in a row.
Freshman, 5-10, 165, Fairmont, Minn., Fairmont High School, Wide Reciever
He looks to add depth at the wide receiver position for the Tigers in the 2017 season. Bulfer was a three-year starter and letterwinner for the Fairmont Cardinals. He wrestled three years and ran track four years.
Freshman, 6-2, 275, Reno, Nevada, Damonte Ranch High School, Defensive Line
Odom was a three-year starter and letterwinner with the Damonte Ranch Mustangs. He finished his senior season with 69 tackles, six sacks and seven hurries. Odom was a 4A Region Champion while being named First Team All-Region and First Team All-League. He was also named RGT All-North football player.
Freshman, 5-10, 205, Fairbanks, Alaska, West Valley High School, Quarterback
The three-year starter looks to add depth at the quarterback position for the Tigers. He holds school records for passing touchdowns, passing yards, completions, attempts and completion percentage. Lester holds the best touchdown-to-interception ratio and completion percentage in the state three years in a row. In 24 games he finished with 308 completions, 3,753 passing yards, 42 passing touchdowns, 76 percent completion rate, 986 rushing yards and eight rushing touchdowns. He was named First Team All-Conference.
Bryant Aguilar
Freshman, 6-2, 270, Farmington, Minn., Farmington High School, Offensive Line
The three-year letter recipient comes to DWU in hopes to compete on the offensive line. Aguilar started one season for his high school and participated all four years of high school. He was a member of the 'B' Honor Roll.
Freshman, 6-1, 185, Sheldon, Iowa, Boyden-Hull Community School, Running Back
Schafer adds depth to the already deep running back position for the Tigers from Sheldon, Iowa. He rushed for 1,237 yards off 146 attempts and caught 21 passes for 253 yards with 19 total touchdowns. He helped lead his team to a 12-1 record and state championship victory his senior season. Schafer was named Second Team All-State, First Team All-District and All-Northwestern Iowa Review. He started two seasons and lettered three times.
Freshman, 6-2, 285, Sioux Falls, S.D., Sioux Falls Washington High School, Defensive Line
Loronzini joins the DWU football team from Sioux Falls, S.D., where he played defensive line for the Sioux Falls Washington Warriors. He helped the Warriors win the 2015 and 2016 State 'AAA' Championship. He finished with a 23-1 combined record his junior and senior seasons. Loronzini played football for four seasons and wrestled for four seasons while running track for four years.
Freshman, 6-0, 235, Oakland, Calif., Madison Park Academy, Defensive Line
The 6-foot defensive lineman started for the Trojans for one season. He started for his high school basketball team for one season and competed in track and field for a year.
