DWU secures road victory
JAMESTOWN, N.D. – With the University of Jamestown threatening to score for a second time before halftime, the Dakota Wesleyan University football team’s defense made a goal line stand to keep Jamestown out of the end zone. The stop helped push DWU to victory in the second half in the Great Plains Athletic Conference matchup, 41-21 Saturday in Jamestown, N.D.

The stop helped push DWU to victory in the second half in the Great Plains Athletic Conference matchup, 41-21 Saturday in Jamestown, N.D.
The Tigers (2-7, 1-6 GPAC) wasted no time getting on the scoreboard as Spencer Neugebauer (Mitchell, S.D.) punched the ball into the end zone on a 3-yard touchdown rush. In the opening minutes of the second quarter, Shaye Slaughter (Harrisburg, S.D.) found freshman Daniel Libolt (Chambers, Neb.) for a 34-yard touchdown pass to put DWU up 14-0.
Less than four minutes later, Slaughter connected with Libolt again, this time for a 9-yard touchdown pass. With 3:42 remaining in the first half, the Tigers found the end zone for the fourth time thanks to a 6-yard touchdown rush by Luke Loudenburg (Canova, S.D.), taking a 28-0 lead.
The Jimmies notched their first score of the game with 1:25 left in the second quarter to make it a 28-7 ballgame. Jamestown regained possession before the end of the half and drove inside the DWU 5-yard line. However, the Tiger defense held strong and kept Jamestown out of the end zone as the first half ended.
DWU put the game out of reach in the second half with a Neugebauer touchdown catch from 46 yards out to put the Tigers up 34-7. Loudenburg capped off the scoring with a 5-yard touchdown rush as the Tigers went on to win their second game of the season, 41-21.
Slaughter finished the game 10-of-18 passing for 205 yards and three touchdowns, while Loudenburg chipped in 154 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Neugebauer snagged 115 receiving yards on three catches and a touchdown. Lucas Chase (Fort Pierre, S.D.) led the defense with 3.5 tackles for loss, as Tyrel Haley (Winner, S.D.) added three tackles and an interception.
The Tigers return home to take on Doane University in a GPAC battle at 1 p.m. Saturday at Joe Quintal Field.
