Voss scores 1,000th career point in win over Concordia

Jalen Voss scored a game-high 21 points against the Bulldogs, including the 1,000th point of his career. After Friday's game, the junior from Worthington, Minn., has 1,011 career points. The Tigers are now 8-7 overall and 2-4 in the league while Concordia falls to 4-9 overall and 2-6 in the GPAC.
Dakota Wesleyan took control early against the Bulldogs and never relinquished that control Friday night. Anthony Muilenburg hit a pair of threes and Trae Bergh added a third long-range shot to keep DWU ahead early in the game, and a third three by Muilenburg sparked a 9-2 run that ended with a 20-11 lead for the Tigers with 14:07 left in the first half.
Jade Miller hit a three to give DWU a double-digit lead for the first time, 27-15, with 10:55 left in the half, and Voss scored eight straight points to put the Tigers up 36-19 with 6:06 left in the first half. Bergh hit a pair of free throws in the final 30 seconds of the first half, and DWU went into the break with a 43-28 lead.
The Tigers started the second half on a 9-2 run that ended with a three by Bergh to put DWU up 52-30 with 16:56 left to play. An 11-1 run a few minutes later made it 63-33 with 12:35 left. The Bulldogs didn't break 40 points until there was just seven minutes left to play in the game and DWU led 72-40.
Voss had 21 points and Bergh and Kris Menning each added 19 points for Dakota Wesleyan. Muilenburg added 14 points and seven assists and Miller had nine rebounds. The Tigers shot 46.4 percent from the field, hit 11 3-pointers and went 13-for-16 from the line. They had 49 rebounds and 13 turnovers.
Robby Thomas was the only player in double digits for Concordia with 13 points. Justin Damme added nine points for the Bulldogs, who shot 35.3 percent from the field, including just 29.2 percent in the second half. Thomas also had seven rebounds. Concordia hit five 3-pointers, went 15-for-23 from the line and had 25 rebounds and 17 turnovers.
DWU is off until Monday, Dec. 30, when it travels to Madison, S.D., to take on Dakota State University at 7p.m.
