MITCHELL, S.D. – Jalen Voss has made a habit of one-upping himself so far in each of his three seasons with the Dakota Wesleyan University men's basketball team.
In 2011-12, the 6-foot-7 forward earned Great Plains Athletic Conference co-Freshman-of-the-Year honors, and was named to the league's honorable mention team. As a sophomore, the Worthington, Minn., native got bumped up to the All-GPAC First Team – and earned All-American Honorable Mention accolades.
With his junior season out of the way, he's outdone himself once again.
Voss, who earned All-GPAC First Team honors for a second straight year in 2013-14, earned All-American Third Team honors, it was announced Wednesday afternoon. He is just the 10th player in Tiger men's basketball history to earn two or more All-American accolades. The last player to do so was Brady Wiebe, who earned three consecutive All-American honors from 2009-2011.
Voss led Dakota Wesleyan in both scoring (20.9) and rebounding (7.4) this season, and he was second in the GPAC in both categories. He finished the year 18th in the NAIA in scoring per game and second in the conference with nine double-doubles. Voss had 38 blocked shots, and led the team in scoring 17 times and rebounding 15 times, including a career-high 34 points against Hastings on Feb. 15.
Heading into his final season with the program in 2014-15, Voss' name has already made its way into the DWU record books. He is 23rd on the Tigers' all-time scoring list with 1,321 points, and he also has 687 rebounds and 113 blocked shots to his name. His career scoring average of 14.8 points per game is tied for 22nd in school history.
In his senior season, Voss has the opportunity to become one of just three players in DWU men's basketball history to earn three All-American honors in their career. Wiebe and Alan Miller (1983-85) are the only others on the elite list of athletes.
