Menning drains 7 threes, DWU tops Northwestern 71-57
MITCHELL, S.D. – With leading scorer Jalen Voss (Worthington, Minn.) seeing limited touches due to double teams, the No. 3 Dakota Wesleyan University men’s basketball team put on a show from the outside led by senior guard Kris Menning (Corsica, S.D.) in a 71-57 win over Northwestern College Wednesday at the Corn Palace in Mitchell, S.D.
MITCHELL, S.D. – With leading scorer Jalen Voss (Worthington, Minn.) seeing limited touches due to double teams, the No. 3 Dakota Wesleyan University men's basketball team put on a show from the outside led by senior guard Kris Menning (Corsica, S.D.) in a 71-57 win over Northwestern College Wednesday at the Corn Palace in Mitchell, S.D.
Menning hit 7-of-11 shots from long range en route to game-high 25 points. He hit four threes in the first half, part of an early onslaught that saw the Tigers make 11-of-24 shots from long range in first half. DWU finished 16-of-37 from deep.
The Tigers (17-1, 8-1 GPAC) closed the first half on a 19-7 run to take a 14-point lead into the break. DWU shot 26-of-61 from the field, finishing with 21 total assists and 10 turnovers.
Junior Jade Miller (Mitchell, S.D.) was also strong from beyond the arc, coming off the bench to score 17 points, including five 3-pointers.
Voss and junior guard Trae Bergh (Crooks, S.D.) each added nine points. Voss finished with a team-high nine rebounds, while senior guard Joey Mitchell chipped in with five assists.
The Red Raiders were led by Bryce Moss with 13 points, while Jordan Baker added nine points and a game-high 12 rebounds in the loss.
Northwestern shot 19-of-52 from the field and 7-of-18 from three-point range, while outrebounding the Tigers 41-32.
The Tigers remain home to take on in-state rival Dakota State University at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Corn Palace.
