Voss earns GPAC POTW honors after stellar week

MITCHELL, S.D. – The Dakota Wesleyan University men's basketball team is off to a perfect 8-0 start to the 2014-15 season and the early success is due in large part to the team's big man on the inside.
DWU (8-0, 1-0 GPAC) went 2-0 last week and was led by senior forward Jalen Voss (Worthington, Minn.) who scored a combined 67 points in the pair of victories. For his effort, Voss was named the Great Plains Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week, it was announced Tuesday.
Voss started his standout week with a season-high 37 points in a 96-76 win over Valley City State University on Nov. 18 at the Corn Palace in Mitchell, S.D. He was 16-of-22 from the field, while making three 3-pointers and adding five rebounds. His efficiency in the post has helped DWU move to second in the nation in assist to turnover ratio this season.
In the GPAC opener for the Tigers, Voss was one of three Tigers to eclipse the 30-point mark in a 125-88 win over the Prairie Wolves on the road. Voss finished 14-of-22 from the field with 30 points and nine rebounds in the win.
Voss currently ranks ninth in the country in total scoring with 177 points, and 12th in points per game with 22.1. He is 15th in the NAIA in field goal percentage at 65.6 percent.
Voss and the Tigers look to continue their roll through the early part of the season against Briar Cliff University in DWU's GPAC home opener. The tip of between two schools receiving votes in the NAIA Preseason Coaches' Poll is set for 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Corn Palace.
