Hot start, strong defense lead Tiger men past Trojans 67-42

The No. 3 Tigers (18-1) toppled the Trojans 67-42, allowing a season low in points and holding DSU to just 34 percent shooting. The Tigers have now matched their win total from last season with two months remaining in the season.
Leading the Tigers on offense was senior forward Kris Menning (Corsica, S.D.), who finished with 23 points, five rebounds and one block in the seventh-straight win for DWU.
Joining the Tiger onslaught was junior guard Trae Bergh (Crooks, S.D.) with 20 points, including three 3-pointers, four rebounds and four assists. In his first start of the season, junior forward Jade Miller (Mitchell, S.D.) added 10 points, as he was effective at getting to the rim.
On the inside, senior forward Luke Bamberg (Corsica, S.D.) led the Tiger attack on the boards, grabbing a game-high 14 rebounds, while adding three assists and three steals.
The Tigers shot 25-of-54 from the field and 6-of-19 from beyond the three-point line, while outrebounding DSU 34-28.
The Trojans were led by Derek Meger, who was the lone DSU player to finish in double figures with 13 points. DSU shot 17-of-50 from the field and 2-of-18 from long range.
The Tigers return to league play against Mount Marty College at 8 p.m. Wednesday in Yankton, S.D.
