Spicer leads sharp-shooting Tigers over Presentation
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Jason Spicer (Sioux Falls, S.D.) tallied career-highs in in two different categories as the No. 25 Dakota Wesleyan University men’s basketball team defeated Presentation College 109-81 in the first annual South Dakota NAIA Pentagon Classic in Sioux Falls, S.D.
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Jason Spicer (Sioux Falls, S.D.) tallied career-highs in in two different categories as the No. 25 Dakota Wesleyan University men's basketball team defeated Presentation College 109-81 in the first annual South Dakota NAIA Pentagon Classic in Sioux Falls, S.D.
Spicer led the DWU offensive attack with 28 points and nine rebounds, just shy of a double-double.
The Tigers shot a blistering 77 percent from the field in the first-half, led by Trae Vandeberg (Madison, S.D.) who shot 6-of-9 from the field and 4-of-6 from beyond the arc. Vandeberg went on to record 23 points, seven rebounds and six assists.
DWU kept the Saints at bay for much of the second-half, storming to a 35-point lead in the latter portion of the contest. Spicer used his height to his advantage, knocking down layup after layup against an undersized Presentation team. The junior scored 17 of his 28 points in the second-half.
Senior Tate Martin (Mitchell, S.D.) recorded a double-double with 18 points and 11 assists. Freshman Ty Hoglund (Dell Rapids, S.D.) added 21 points, while Aaron Ahmadu (Houston, Texas) pitched in 14 points in his first start as a Tiger.
DWU went on to shoot 60 percent from the field, 50 percent from beyond the arc and 81 percent from the free-throw line.
The Tigers (3-0) host the first annual Beau Keeter Memorial Classic, taking on Bellevue University at 7 p.m. at the Corn Palace in Mitchell, S.D.
