Tigers Capture Revenge in Dominating Fashion

MITCHELL, S.D. – The No. 12 Dakota Wesleyan University men's basketball team was hungry for revenge against the University of Jamestown and they got it as they cruised to a 95-65 victory in a non-conference battle Wednesday night at the Corn Palace in Mitchell, S.D.

 Offense was key for the Tigers as senior Tate Martin (Mitchell, S.D.) and junior Jason Spicer (Sioux Falls, S.D.) orchestrated a powerful offensive attack against the Jimmies. Spicer went on to have a career night for the Tigers (11-3, 6-1 GPAC) as he went off for 21 first-half points. Spicer got off to a hot start as he tallied 15 of the Tigers' 30 points early in the game when DWU took a 30-14 lead with 9:11 left in the half. The Tigers never slowed down in the first half as they built a 52-37 lead heading into halftime. The Tigers shot 62 percent in the first half, compared to 39 percent for the Jimmies (7-7, 3-1 NSAA).

 Trae Vandeberg (Madison, S.D.) helped the Tigers begin the second half as he was fed by Spicer for the two-handed dunk to put DWU up 54-39 less than a minute into the half. DWU continued to pound the ball into the post as they outscored Jamestown, 50-20 in the paint. After a timeout at the nine-minute mark, DWU went on a 14-3 run to extend its lead to 35 points, solidifying the win over the future GPAC member.

 Spicer ended the night with a double-double, recording 30 points, 10 assists and eight rebounds, while Tate Martin (Mitchell, S.D.) added a double-double with 15 points and 11 assists. Vandeberg chipped in 15 points and nine rebounds, just shy of a double-double. Off the bench, Kaleb Johnson (Sioux Falls, S.D.) scored 12 points in 15 minutes of action.

 DWU shot 54 percent from the field, 43 percent from beyond the arc and 75 percent from the free-throw line. The Tigers tallied 28 assists, while Jamestown had 10.

 The Tigers hit the road as they play the University of Dubuque at 8 p.m. Tuesday in the Trip Sports Las Vegas Hoopla in Las Vegas, Nev.
