No. 7 Tigers struggle to slow Chargers on the road
SIOUX CITY, Iowa – Despite scoring 42 points in the paint, the No. 7 Dakota Wesleyan University men’s basketball team fell to the No. 18 Briar Cliff University Chargers, 106-80 Wednesday night in a Great Plains Athletic Conference contest in Sioux City, Iowa.

The Tigers (21-7, 12-4 GPAC) led momentarily in the first half with a one-point lead. However, the Chargers (21-6, 11-4 GPAC) took the lead moments later and would not surrender it for the rest of the game.
At the half, DWU trailed 52-43 after shooting 51.7 percent from the field and 90 percent from the free-throw line in the first half. The Chargers opened up their lead to double digits in the second half. The Tigers cut into the lead multiple times midway through the half, but could not overcome the hot shooting from Briar Cliff.
With the loss, the Tigers are currently tied for first with Northwestern College atop the GPAC standings as of Wednesday night.
Ty Hoglund (Dell Rapids, S.D.) led the Tigers with 23 points and seven rebounds, while grabbing his 500th-career point in a Tiger uniform. Jason Spicer (Sioux Falls, S.D.) added 20 points and six rebounds. Tate Martin (Mitchell, S.D.) finished with 11 points and seven assists and Aaron Ahmadu (Houston, Texas) tallied seven points off the bench. The Tigers shot 46.2 percent from the field, 26.9 percent from 3-point range and 92.9 percent from the charity stripe in the game.
The Tigers set their sights on their next GPAC battle against Concordia University at 4 p.m. on Sunday at the Corn Palace in Mitchell, S.D.
