Martin named NAIA All-American, Spicer and Hoglund earn Honorable Mention

MITCHELL, S.D. – Following a third-straight trip to the NAIA Men's National Basketball Tournament, the accolades continue for the Dakota Wesleyan University men's basketball team. Senior Tate Martin (Mitchell, S.D.) was named to the NAIA Division II Men's Basketball All-America First-Team while Jason Spicer (Sioux Falls, S.D.) and Ty Hoglund (Dell Rapids, S.D.) were each named Honorable Mention, it was announced by the NAIA Thursday.

 After receiving Honorable Mention honors a season ago, Martin led the high-powered Tiger offense in his final season. Martin led the Tigers in assists with 8.7 per game and ranked second in the nation in the same category and in total assists with 286. He added another scoring threat to opposing teams, averaging 14.4 points per game and led the team in double-doubles with 11 on the season.

 Martin etched his name in the DWU record books over the past four seasons. He currently holds the record for most assists in a season with 286, most assists in a career with 832 and sits in 33^rd-place on the DWU all-time scoring list with 1,257 points.

 Spicer was named NAIA Honorable Mention for the first time in his career. This honor comes after joining the 1,000-point club in the final game of the season. He currently has 1,010 points in his career, good for 52^nd on the DWU all-time scoring list. Spicer led the team with 21.4 points per game and 32 blocks on the season. He also ranked seventh nationally in field-goal percentage shooting 63 percent and 11^th in total scoring with 705 points on the season.

 Freshman Ty Hoglund received NAIA Honorable Mention honors as a freshman after a standout season. He finished the season with 608 points, second on the team behind Spicer. The Dell Rapids, native led the team in steals with 42 on the season, averaged four rebounds per game and 1.2 assists per game. Hoglund set a career-high with 37 points in a game against Concordia University on Feb. 22.
