The Tigers jumped out to a 20-8 lead after Ty Hoglund (Dell Rapids, S.D.) hit a layup that was soon followed by a jumper from senior Jason Spicer (Sioux Falls, S.D.) DWU eventually grew its lead to as much as 17 points with 7:49 to play in the half, but the Jimmies would not go away as they trailed by eight points just five minutes later. The Jimmies (6-2) took their first lead of the game at the 17:05 mark and led for the next three minutes until Spicer added another jumper. For the rest of the game, it was a back-and-forth affair, however the Tigers found an opening with a five-point lead, thanks to a layup by Aaron Ahmadu (Houston, Texas).
