Spicer named NAIA All-American First Team, Hoglund tabbed to Third Team
MITCHELL, S.D. – After the Dakota Wesleyan University men’s basketball team finished the season in its fourth-straight trip to the NAIA Men’s National Basketball Tournament, two players were named to the NAIA Division II Men’s Basketball All-America Team. Jason Spicer (Sioux Falls, S.D.) was named First Team All-American, while Ty Hoglund (Dell Rapids, S.D.) was named Third Team, it was announced by the NAIA Thursday.

Jason Spicer (Sioux Falls, S.D.) was named First Team All-American, while Ty Hoglund (Dell Rapids, S.D.) was named Third Team, it was announced by the NAIA Thursday.
After receiving Honorable Mention honors last season, Spicer was at the front of the Tiger offense during his senior season. Spicer led the team with 19.1 points per game and 5.6 assists per game. He finished his career with 1,660 points, 571 rebounds and 362 assists. He ranks 14th on the DWU men's basketball all-time scoring list.
Spicer ranked seventh in the NAIA in total assists with 191, while ranking eighth nationally in assists per game at 5.6. He averaged 22.5 points, 5.5 assists and six rebounds during the national tournament.
Hoglund was named to the Third Team after being named to the Honorable Mention Team a season ago. In just his second season, Hoglund scored his 1,000th-career point. He finished the season with 1,173 career points, 41st in program history. After missing a portion of the season due to injury, he still ranked second on the team with 18.8 points per game and third on the team with 2.7 assists per game. He averaged 19 points per game and seven rebounds per game during the national tournament.
The Tigers finished the season with a 23-11 record overall and 11-7 record in conference play. DWU will lose Spicer to graduation, but retain Hoglund for his junior season.
