(RV) Jimmies take down No. 11 Tigers in conference clash

JAMESTOWN, N.D. – A quick 8-0 run to begin the second half helped push (RV) University of Jamestown to a 74-66 victory over the No. 11 Dakota Wesleyan University women's basketball squad Wednesday night in Great Plains Athletic Conference action in Jamestown, N.D.

Sawyer Schultz (Emery, S.D.) kicked things off for the Tigers (14-4, 10-3 GPAC) on their second possession with a basket to score the opening points of the night. Jamestown responded with a 6-0 run to hold a 6-2 lead moments later.

But Nick Harden (Chicago, Ill.) found his rhythm as he added a basket followed by a free throw to keep DWU within a possession. The next time down the court Koln Oppold (Sioux Falls, S.D.) dished the ball to Schultz who nailed a 3-pointer to tie the game, 8-8.

After the Jimmies (13-5, 9-4 GPAC) took a 12-10 lead, DWU answered with a 6-0 run capped off by an Ace Zorr (Harrisburg, S.D.) basket. As the half dipped below 10 minutes to play, Zorr buried a shot from beyond the arc to push the lead to four points.

However, it was a 6-0 run by Jamestown this time to take a two-point advantage. The teams traded blows down the stretch until the Jimmies held a 30-29 lead at halftime.

Jamestown began the second half on an 8-0 run to force a DWU timeout. Coming out of the timeout, Jeffrey Schuch (Dell Rapids, S.D.) made a layup to put an end to the Jamestown run. After Jamestown built a nine-point lead, the Tigers put together a 9-3 run to pull within three points with 10 minutes to play.

However, the Jimmies responded with a quick 6-0 spurt to push their lead back to eight points. The Tigers attempted to mount a late comeback as Zorr made a pair of free throws with three minutes to play. However, the Jimmies fended off the late DWU rally to put the Tigers away.

Zorr came off the bench to record a career-high 20 points and seven rebounds, while Schultz notched 15 points and six rebounds. The Tigers outrebounded the Jimmies 41-31 and finished with six steals.

DWU stays on the road to battle Briar Cliff University at 8 p.m. on Wednesday in Sioux City, Iowa.
