HASTINGS, Neb. – In the six years since its inception, the annual TigBro Match between the Dakota Wesleyan University men's golf team and Hastings College has been dominated by the Tigers. The tide did not turn in the 2016 edition, despite a rally from the Broncos Saturday at Elks Golf Course in Hastings, Neb.
The Tigers led 6.5 to 1.5 heading into the afternoon singles matches. DWU got strong performances from its lower seeded golfers to hang on for the 9.5 to 7.5 win. The win is the sixth in a row for the Tigers in the event and first for head coach Chris Gomez.
The Tigers had a five-point lead after the 4-ball and alternate shot competitions in the morning. The pairing of sophomore Ryker Kruetzfelt (Mitchell, S.D.) and junior Michael Whitney (Brandon, S.D.) won both matchups, while the team of seniors Anthony Husher (Winner, S.D.) and Tyler Burr (Belle Fourche, S.D.) took 1.5 points before the afternoon singles round got going.
Sophomore Russell Pick (Kimball, S.D.) and junior Elliot Banks (East Sussex, England) were the lone Tigers to win in the afternoon singles session as Hastings took six of the possible nine points.
The Tigers continue the spring season at the Wild West Shootout Sunday in Gothenbrg, Neb.
