DWU men’s golf takes third at GPAC Championship

EAGLE, Neb. – After playing 72 holes of golf on Monday and Tuesday, the Dakota Wesleyan University men's golf team finished in third-place out of 10 teams at the Woodland Hills Golf Course in Eagle, Neb.

 Leading the way for the Tigers on the course was senior Tom Hogg (Aberdeen, S.D.). Hogg tied for second with a four-round total of 305. Freshman Connor Preston (Aberdeen, S.D.) finished his first year as a Tiger in a tie for 13^th-place with a total of 314.

 "Tom is one of my captains and because of his work ethic and unspoken leadership, the team follows him," Head Coach Chris Gomez said. "I couldn't ask for a better guy and a stronger leader. I was blessed to have him for two years."

 Senior Michael Whitney (Brandon, S.D.) came in 16^th-place and finished with a 315, while Russel Pick (Kimball, S.D.) tied for 17^th with a 319.

 As a team, the Tigers tallied a 1,240 and was just three strokes shy of second place. Northwestern College claimed the team title, while Corey Matthey of Morningside was the individual champion.

 "It was an incredible effort and determination by this team and it paid off," Gomez said. "I am awfully proud of this team, and how we finished and fought."

 DWU graduates seven seniors from this year's team, but welcomes seven new members for next season that includes 2016 Class 'B' state runner-up Justice Morrison of White River, S.D.
