Men’s golf tied for seventh place following GPAC Fall Qualifier
ELK HORN, Neb. – Thanks to a strong start to the second round, the Dakota Wesleyan University men’s golf team finished tied for seventh place with a final tally of 635 on the scorecard at the Great Plains Athletic Conference Fall Qualifier on Monday and Tuesday at the Indian Creek Country Club in Elk Horn, Neb.
ELK HORN, Neb. – Thanks to a strong start to the second round, the Dakota Wesleyan University men's golf team finished tied for seventh place with a final tally of 635 on the scorecard at the Great Plains Athletic Conference Fall Qualifier on Monday and Tuesday at the Indian Creek Country Club in Elk Horn, Neb.
Senior Cade Carpenter (Mitchell, S.D.) paced the Tigers on the opening day with a 76, thanks to notching a birdie on a pair of holes. Carpenter tallied a 79 on the second day with one birdie and 10 pars to finish tied for 16th.
Leading the team in after the two rounds was Devan Weelborg (Bryant, S.D.) as he recorded a 79 on the first day and a 72 on the second day. Through the two rounds, Weelborg finished with six birdies, putting him tied for ninth place.
Freshman Jack Brinkman (Jackson, Minn.) finished tied for 33rd after an opening-round score of 80. He carded an 84 on the second day to record a two-day total of 164. Only one stroke behind Brinkman was Payton Phares (Rapid City, S.D.) who tallied an 84 on the first day. He bounced back in the second round to finish with an 81 thanks to three birdies.
Rounding out the group was Bennett Lundy (Aberdeen, S.D.) as he tied for 44th place. After carding an 88 in the opening round, he responded with an 86 on the second day.
The Tigers tied with Briar Cliff University, while Morningside College sits in first place after the GPAC Fall Qualifier with a 586. Doane University sits in second place with a 607 and Northwestern College rounds out the top three with a 610.
DWU returns to action in the spring of 2021 with the schedule to be announced.
