YANKTON, S.D. – After tying the game in the 28th minute, the Dakota Wesleyan University men's soccer team could not muster another goal as Mount Marty College came away with a 3-1 Great Plains Athletic Conference victory on Wednesday night in Yankton, S.D.
The Lancers (3-5, 2-2 GPAC) opened with a goal in the fourth minute to take an early lead. However, the Tigers (2-4-2, 1-2-1 GPAC) evened the scoreline in the 28th minute after Rafael Medrano (Phoenix, Ariz.) found Ronaldo Acosta (Half Moon Bay, Calif.) for a goal.
Neither team scored for the remainder of the half as DWU and MMC went to intermission in a 1-1 tie.
After 20 minutes of play in the second half, the Lancers scored again to take a 2-1 lead. Less than 10 minutes later they added a third goal that put the game out of reach and down the Tigers.
Acosta finished with a goal and two shots, as Medrano notched an assist and two shots. Matthew Campbell (Duluth, Minn.) snagged 11 saves in the net, while the Tigers finished with 12 shots and eight shots on goal as a team.
