Maloku nets two goals in loss to Jimmies
MITCHELL, S.D. – The Dakota Wesleyan University men’s soccer team fell by a score of 4-3 to the University of Jamestown Wednesday evening in Great Plains Athletic Conference play at the Pepsi-Cola Soccer Complex. Despite its best offensive performance of the season, DWU was unable to provide the equalizer late in the game.
MITCHELL, S.D. – The Dakota Wesleyan University men's soccer team fell by a score of 4-3 to the University of Jamestown on Wednesday evening in Great Plains Athletic Conference play at the Pepsi-Cola Soccer Complex. Despite its best offensive performance of the season, DWU was unable to provide the equalizer late in the game.
The Tigers (2-6-1, 1-5-1 GPAC) struck first on the offensive attack notching a 1-0 lead in the seventh minute. Ndrin Maloku (Prishtine, Albania) opened the scoring for DWU as he found the back of the net off the assist from Jason Jattan (Union City, Calif.).
The Jimmies (3-4-0, 3-3-0 GPAC) wasted no time as they not only recorded the equalizer but took the lead scoring goals in the 10th and 14th minute, respectively.
Though, the plethora of goals continued as Joel Sanchez (Salinas, Calif.) netted his first goal of the season for the Tigers in the 27th minute evening the score at 2-2. Not to be outdone, Jamestown tallied a late goal in the 37th minute taking a 3-2 lead into halftime.
Despite trailing at the intermission, DWU led the way 2-1 in saves while being outshot 8-7. Maloku and Omar Menchaca-Torres (Lindsay, Calif.) paced the offensive attack combining for five shots on goal.
The Tigers made quick work to open the second half scoring on their first shot of the period. Maloku used his seventh goal of the season off the assist from Carson Fox (Watertown, S.D.) to knot the score at 3-3.
Both teams would trade possessions until the 57th minute when Jamestown found the back of the net once again securing a 4-3 lead. In spite of several chances on goal by Maloku and the DWU offense, the Jimmies held on down the stretch for a 4-3 victory.
The Blue and Gray recorded a season best three goals on 13 total shot attempts. Matthew Campbell (Duluth, Minn.) secured five saves at the goalie position keeping the game within reach for the Tigers.
Dakota Wesleyan will take the pitch once again with a matchup versus Midland at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday in Fremont, Neb.
