MITCHELL, S.D. – The Dakota Wesleyan University softball team has signed utility player Katelyne Dougherty, a native of Maui, Hawaii, to the class of 2015, it was announced Tuesday.
DWU softball coach Ed Kieff said the signing brings in a player that can add depth and stability to a number of positions for the Tigers. He said Dougherty should fit in well in the DWU outfield.
"We are very fortunate and excited to have signed Katelyne," Kieff said. "She will fit right in to our program and help us in multiple positions. Not only a seasoned player but a great student who works hard. We are looking forward to her joining the DWU softball family."
Dougherty, who is the sixth member of the DWU recruiting class of 2015, has played third base, outfield and catcher in Hawaii. She is in her senior year at Maui High School where she has lettered four times in softball and was named an All-State Third Team utility player.
Dougherty also plays for the Hawaii Pearls Maui club team, where she batted .323, with five stolen bases, 18 RBIs and six runs scored last season.
Once on campus, Dougherty plans to major in nursing at DWU. She is the daughter of Scott and Dawn Dougherty.
