SMSU takes two from DWU softball
MARSHALL, Minn. – The Dakota Wesleyan University softball team hit the road on Saturday, dropping a doubleheader to NCAA Division II Southwest Minnesota State University. The Mustangs took Game One 9-2, and the finale 9-8 in Marshall, Minn.

MARSHALL, Minn. – The Dakota Wesleyan University softball team hit the road on Saturday, dropping a doubleheader to NCAA Division II Southwest Minnesota State University. The Mustangs took Game One 9-2, and the finale 9-8 in Marshall, Minn.
In the first game, the Mustangs put up a four spot in the first inning, followed by five more runs in the next three innings.
Junior Paige Kinley (Worthington, Minn.) continues her dominance at the plate, going 1-for-3 with a home run, an RBI and a run. Amber Budmark (Sacramento, Calif.) also tallied a homer after going 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run.
Lorissa Loeppky (Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada) was saddled with the loss after tossing three innings, allowing eight runs on six hits, while striking out one.
Game Two was a different story for the Tigers. Despite allowing eight runs in the first two innings, DWU answered with four runs in the fifth and seventh innings, but it wasn't enough as the Mustangs held on for victory.
Kinley went 2-for-4 with a run, while Katelyne Dougherty (Maui, Hawaii) was 2-for-2 with two RBIs and a run. Karly Severance (Las Vegas, Nev.) and Sierra Haage (Sioux Falls, S.D.) homered in the loss.
Haage took the loss after tossing six innings, allowing three runs on 10 hits, while striking out four.
The Tigers (10-19) begin Great Plains Athletic Conference play against Dordt College at 5 p.m. Wednesday in Sioux Center, Iowa.
