Softball drops pair of games to Midland
FREMONT, Neb. – The Dakota Wesleyan University softball team dropped two Great Plains Athletic Conference games against Midland University 6-1 in the first game and 8-0 in the second game, Sunday in Fremont, Neb.

FREMONT, Neb. – The Dakota Wesleyan University softball team dropped two Great Plains Athletic Conference games against Midland University 6-1 in the first game and 8-0 in the second game, Sunday in Fremont, Neb.
In the first game, the Warriors (28-11, 15-3 GPAC) struck first with a three-run fourth inning. The Tigers (10-20, 6-6 GPAC) answered back in the bottom of the fourth after Karly Severance (Las Vegas, Nev.) nailed a solo homerun to put DWU on the scoreboard.
Midland added two runs in the fifth inning and a run in the seventh to push past the Tigers in the first game. Severance led the way as she went 1-for-3 with a homerun, while Sierra Haage (Sioux Falls, S.D.), Alyssa Garcia (L.A. Verne, Calif.) and Andrea Konz (Mitchell, S.D.) finished 1-for-3 at the plate. Alyson VanderPol (Mitchell, S.D.) was tabbed with the loss as she pitched five innings, striking out two batters.
The Warriors jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the second game after the first inning. Midland added two more runs in the top of the second inning to take an 8-0 lead. Neither team could muster a run for the remainder of the game as the Warriors took the second game from DWU.
Julia Kelley (Omaha, Neb.) finished 2-for-2, as Severance and Claudia Nixon (Shaunavon, Saskatchewan, Canada) each went 1-for-1. Senior Paige Kinley finished the game going 1-for-2 and VanderPol pitched three and two-third innings, striking out a batter.
The Tigers return to action for a GPAC doubleheader against Concordia University at 4 p.m. tomorrow in Seward, Neb.
