Tiger softball battles in Tucson

TUCSON, Ariz. – The Dakota Wesleyan University softball team has battled through five games over the past two days against some of the toughest competition in the NAIA on Monday and Tuesday in Tucson, Ariz.

 Following the opening day, the Tigers (3-12) dropped their next two games to Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and the University of Saint Francis (Ill.). However, DWU picked up a win against Bethel College (Ind.), 16-1 to end the day yesterday.

 In the victory, the Tigers came out storming with four runs in the opening inning. Sierra Haage (Sioux Falls, S.D.) smacked a pitch over the left field fence for a grand slam, putting DWU up 4-0. In the bottom of the third inning, DWU tallied two more homeruns and eight total runs in the frame to take a 12-0 lead. In the following frame, the Tigers notched four runs to end the game as DWU won, 16-1. 

DWU followed yesterday's performance up with a two-game skid as they lost to Baldwin Wallace University and Benedictine College.

 Through the past five games, Haage has led the Tigers as she has gone 9-for-11 with six RBIs and a pair of homeruns. Freshman Adriana Thomason (Las Vegas, Nev.) is not far behind as she has gone 8-for-8 with seven RBIs and a homerun.

 DWU takes on Missouri Valley University at noon to begin a set of three games tomorrow in Tucson, Ariz.
