TIGERS LOSE A PAIR OF CLOSE BATTLES TO NO. 11 RED RAIDERS ON THE ROAD

 Sioux City, Iowa – 

 Dakota Wesleyan softball hit the road this morning to face GPAC foe and No. 11 ranked Northwestern for a double header matchup. In game one, the Raiders took a 1-0 lead after the first inning. The Tigers would struggle to get runners home through the first four innings, leaving several runners stranded. The first score for DWU came in the top of the fifth when Alyssa Burke singled out into right field and Reagan Grossi was able to sprint home. Tigers trailed 4-1 after their first score going into the sixth frame. The defense would turn it up in the sixth inning and get Northwestern off the field with some fly outs and ground outs. Burke and Grossi decided to do it again for the Tigers again and score another run. Grossi would get on first base behind an error by the Raiders pitcher. Peyton Bagley's single to left field would advance Reagan to third and into scoring position. With Burke up to bat, she would hit a sacrifice fly and Grossi would tag up and score her second run of the day. The Tigers late comeback would be cut short after their third out in the seventh and the Raiders would take game one, 4-2. 

Game two, the Tigers held the Raiders scoreless through the first three innings. Nora Nelson was able to get on base in the second, but DWU was unable to get her home for a score. Ivy Woolwine and the Tiger defense was able to strand several Raiders on the bases through three innings. In the fourth the Raiders proved why they are No. 11 in the nation. NWU would rip off three runs on a deep triple to center field and take a 3-0 lead heading into the fifth. Dakota Wesleyan would struggle to get anyone on base. After walking the first batter, DWU was able to get the next three batters out after catching a Raider stealing and a few fly outs. The Tigers were unable to make a comeback in the seventh, losing game two 3-0.

Dakota Wesleyan will host their first home game of the season against Dordt. The double header is set to take place Wednesday, April 3rd at 1:00 and 3:00 p.m.
