Herrold honored with NAIA All-American nod

MITCHELL, S.D. – For the first time in 12 years, the Dakota Wesleyan University women's basketball team earned a berth in the NAIA Division II Women's Basketball National Championship, making a run to the quarterfinals.

The Tigers were picked to finish eighth in a highly-competitive Great Plains Athletic Conference, but fought all season to finish in a tie for second place. Much of the team's success was due to the high level of play from junior forward Erica Herrold.

The 6-foot native of Dimock, S.D., guided the Tigers to a record of 27-9, the most wins by the Tigers since 2003-04. For her efforts, Herrold was named to the NAIA All-American Second Team for the first time in her career, it was announced by the NAIA Thursday.

Herrold was also named to the NAIA All-Tournament Team after scoring 22.3 points per game in the Tigers' three contests in Sioux City, Iowa.

In the last 11 games of the season, Herrold scored at least 15 points in each contest, as the Tigers went 8-3 over that stretch. She finished the season averaging 16.7 points and 4.5 rebounds per game, while making 45.9 percent of her shots. Earlier in the campaign, Herrold became the 21^st women's player in Tiger history to reach 1,000 points in her career and now ranks 14^th in the DWU all-time list with 1,234 after three seasons.

Herrold returns to the Tigers next season along with the rest of the team as DWU did not have single senior on the 2015-16 squad.
