Tiger Women Stay Perfect on the Road

YANKTON, S.D. – The No. 3 Dakota Wesleyan University women's basketball team held strong against in-state rival Mount Marty College in a Great Plains Athletic Conference battle Tuesday night. DWU went on to defeat the Lancers 74-66 at the Cimpl Arena in Yankton, S.D.

 With six lead changes early on, the Tigers (9-0, 3-0 GPAC) trailed 18-16 at the end of the first quarter. The second quarter started similarly as baskets were exchanged throughout, until junior guard Madison Kuehl (Hartford, S.D.) made a jump-shot with 15 seconds to give the Tigers a 38-37 lead heading into the locker room.

 Defense was the name of the game for the Tigers as they held the Lancers (3-5, 0-3 GPAC) to 25 percent shooting in the third quarter behind an offensive power that gave the Tigers a 54-48 lead heading into the final stanza. Mount Marty chipped away at the DWU lead as they tied the game at 56 early in the fourth quarter. However, it was the Tigers offense that blew the game wide open with a 13-1 run late into the game, led by some clutch free-throws as the Tigers went on to clinch the victory.

 Five Tigers tallied double-digit scoring led by junior forward Amber Bray (Anoka, Minn.) with 14 points and six rebounds, while sophomore guard Rylie Osthus (De Smet, S.D.) ended the game one rebound short of a double-double with 13 points, nine rebounds and three assists. Senior forward Erica Herrold (Dimock, S.D.) tallied 11 points and snatched four rebounds. Ashley Bray (Anoka, Minn.) added 10 points, while senior Kristin Sabers (Mitchell, S.D.) scored 11 points while bringing down three rebounds of the bench.

 Twin sisters Ashley and Amber Bray have been a staple at the charity stripe, combining for 53-of-55 shots made so far this season. The Tigers went on to shoot 42 percent from the field and 82 percent from beyond the arc.

 The Tigers return home for a GPAC match-up against Morningside College at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Corn Palace in Mitchell, S.D.
