Christensen adds Division I transfer
MITCHELL, S.D. – The Dakota Wesleyan University women’s basketball team boosted its interior scoring ability with the addition of Sioux Falls, S.D., native Jessica Mieras, it was announced by head women’s basketball coach Jason Christensen on Wednesday evening.
MITCHELL, S.D. – The Dakota Wesleyan University women's basketball team boosted its interior scoring ability with the addition of Sioux Falls, S.D., native Jessica Mieras, it was announced by head women's basketball coach Jason Christensen on Wednesday evening.
The former South Dakota State University Jackrabbit, was named to the 2016 Summit League Academic Honor Roll, while recording 1.2 points and 1.4 rebounds per game during the 2015-16 season.
"I am beyond excited to add Jessica to the women's basketball program," Christensen said. "She will provide us with an immediate scoring threat in the paint as well as having the ability to step outside and shoot the ball. She will also be a valuable asset to the Tiger family off the court as well."
The 6-foot-3 Mieras graduated from Sioux Falls O'Gorman High School and was a finalist for Miss South Dakota Basketball. She led her team to the state championship as a senior, finishing runner-up with a 23-2 record. In 2014-15 she was First Team Class 'AA' All-State, while finishing with 1,158 career points, good for second in school history.
As a senior Mieras averaged 16.1 points, 6.7 rebounds and 1.6 blocks per game. She also holds eight school records as a Knight (field goals made in a career, season and game; field goal percentage in a season and game; and blocks in a career, season and game).
Aside from lettering four times in basketball, she also lettered four times in volleyball and track. Mieras was an Argue Leader Elite Five First Team selection and a two-time First Team All-League and All-District selection. In the community she was a state 4-H "Hometown Hero" and an FCA Honor Athlete.
