Carr, Cheeseman and Karst named to All-GPAC Team
MITCHELL, S.D. – It was a senior trio for the Dakota Wesleyan University women’s basketball team that was named to the Great Plains Athletic Conference All-Conference Team. Sarah Carr (Huron, S.D.) and Kynedi Cheeseman (Alexandria, S.D.) were each tabbed to the All-GPAC First Team for the second consecutive year, while Makaela Karst (Plankinton, S.D.) was honored to the All-GPAC Second Team for the first time in her career.
MITCHELL, S.D. – It was a senior trio for the Dakota Wesleyan University women's basketball team that was named to the Great Plains Athletic Conference All-Conference Team. Sarah Carr (Huron, S.D.) and Kynedi Cheeseman (Alexandria, S.D.) were each tabbed to the All-GPAC First Team for the second consecutive year, while Makaela Karst (Plankinton, S.D.) was honored to the All-GPAC Second Team for the first time in her career.
For Cheeseman, this adds another accolade to a historic season. She surpassed 2,000 career points with a win over Mount Marty College and now sits second in program history with 2,098 career points. She finished the season leading the conference with 20.4 points per game and leading the GPAC with 631 points on the year. Cheeseman also ranked second in the conference with an 85.3% free-throw percentage.
She was a two-time GPAC Player-of-the-Week member, while being named NAIA National-Player-of-the-Week once this season. Cheeseman ranks fourth in the NAIA in total scoring and sixth in points per game. She also checks in at 11th nationally in free-throw percentage and 18th with 136 assists the season.
Carr joins Cheeseman on the All-GPAC First Team for a second straight season. She has continued to move up on the program's all-time scoring list as she sits in fifth with 1,727 career points. Carr leads the team with 5.9 rebounds per game and is second on the team with 16 points per game.
In the GPAC, Carr ranks fifth in scoring per game and fourth in total points with 496 points this season. She also sits sixth in the conference with a 48.4% field-goal percentage on the year.
Karst joins the All-Conference Team for the first time in her career after being tabbed to the All-GPAC Second Team. Karst broke out in her senior year as she averaged 10.5 points, 5.7 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game. She ranks 30th in the NAIA with 46 blocks this season and checks in at 34th in blocks per game.
She recorded a season-high 19 points in a victory over the University of Jamestown in late January, while also tying a career high with four blocks against the College of Saint Mary in early January.
