Snitily and Schirado take fourth at NAIA North National Qualifier
CRETE, Neb. – Seven Tiger wrestlers competed in the NAIA North National Qualifier at Doane University on Saturday in Crete, Neb.
CRETE, Neb. – Seven Tiger wrestlers competed in the NAIA North National Qualifier at Doane University on Saturday in Crete, Neb.
Freshman Sjon Snitily (Auburn, Wash.) took fourth place in 149-pound weight class after defeating Zac Funderburk of Briar Cliff University, 17-12. Funderburk defeated Snitily earlier in the year by tech fall. The freshman also defeated Preston Jurgens of Doane University who previously beat Snitily by pin earlier in the year.
Matt Schirado (Harrisburg, S.D.) defeated Alexander Reimers of Concordia University in the quarterfinal before dropping by major decision in the semifinal round. Schirado went on to pin Jacob Spencer of Briar Cliff in the consolation semifinals, to move on to the third-place match. Schirado met up with Reimers and fell 13-9 to bring home fourth, while ending the regular season with a 16-14 record.
Other wrestlers that competed were Chris Wheeler (Palmdale, Calif.), Alex Osborne (Vermillion, S.D.), Zechariah Westergaard (Vermillion, S.D.), Tanner Wernsman (Arapahoe, Neb.) and Trevor Peter (Dell Rapids, S.D.
The NAIA National Tournament begins on March 3 in Topeka, Kan.
