Hutcheson adds 10 signees for upcoming season
MITCHELL, S.D. – Dakota Wesleyan University head wrestling coach Nick Hutcheson is excited to announce the addition of 10 student-athletes for the 2017-18 season.

Sophomore, Wagner, S.D., Wagner Community High School, 141/149-pound weight class
Dion transfers to the Tiger wrestling team from Iowa Lakes Community College. He competed in the 141-pound weight class with a record of 14-3. At the State 'B' Wrestling Tournament he took first his senior season, second his junior year, fourth his sophomore year and finished seventh his freshman season. He was named Most Valuable Wrestler and Hardest Worker four years in a row. Dion was awarded the Most Improved Wrestler for three seasons and won team championships in 2010, 2009 and 2008. He was also a member of the cross country and track teams. He will major in criminal justice at DWU.
Seth Caro
Freshman, Hoffman Estates Ill., Hoffman Estates High School, 125-pound weight class
Caro joins DWU from Hoffman Estates, Ill., where he wrestled in the 120-pound weight class for the Hoffman Estates High School Hawks. He wrestled four years and received three varsity letters. He finished with a third place finish at the JV Conference Meet in 2014, second place at the Mickey Marchese Tournament in 2015 and fourth place at the 2016 Varsity Regionals. He was a member of 'B' Honor Roll during his sophomore and junior years.
Patrick West
Freshman, Everett, Wash., Everett High School, 149/157-pound weight class
The 2017 Vashon Champion and 2015 Everett Classic Champion comes to DWU to wrestle in the 157-pound weight class. Finished his career with a record of 126-52. He took fourth at the state wrestling tournament his senior season and finished eighth at the state wrestling tournament his junior year. West participated in the state wrestling tournament his sophomore and freshman seasons and was a four-time letterwinner in wrestling. He plans to major in math education.
Xylon Takata
Freshman, Hilo, Hawaii, Waiakea High School, 125/133-pound weight class
The three-year starter looks to make an immediate impact on the mat for the DWU wrestling team. He was a member of the Dean's List in the fall of 2016 at Hawaii Community College. He qualified for the state wrestling meet his senior and junior seasons. He took second at the Big Island Interscholastic Federation his senior year and won the Big Island Interscholastic Federation his junior season. He also competed on his high school football team for two seasons and the judo team for two years. He will major in sports, exercise, and wellness.
Christian Bagdadi
Everett, Wash., Everett High School, 149-pound weight class
Bagdadi transferred to DWU from Southern Oregon University in the spring of 2017. His senior season he was a freestyle champion and placed fourth at the state tournament. He was a three-time letterwinner and two-time team captain.
Brandon Scharmer
Junior, Rush City, Minn., Mohave High School, 149-pound weight class
Scharmer rejoins the DWU wrestling team for the 2017-18 season. He was a starter at the 141-pound weight class during the 2015-16 season for the Tigers.
Nick Claussen
Freshman, Chamberlain, S.D., Chamberlain High School
Claussen will join the DWU wrestling squad in the spring of 2018 after returning from deployment. He was a four-year starter for Chamberlain. He took third at the state wrestling tournament his senior season. He was also a two-time All-State Honorable Mention in football.
