MITCHELL, S.D. – Dakota Wesleyan University head wrestling coach Nick Hutcheson has resigned from his position after three seasons as the head coach, DWU Athletic Director Jon Hart announced Tuesday.
Hutcheson has held a coaching role with the Tigers since his days as a student-athlete at DWU. Hutcheson competed in the 157-pound weight class and 165-pound weight class from 2009-2014. The Elk Point, S.D., native earned All-Great Plains Athletic Conference Second Team honors in 2012 and was a three-time NAIA National Championship qualifier.
"We would like to thank Coach Hutcheson for his dedication and commitment to the program over the last three seasons and wish him nothing but the best going forward," Director of Athletics Jon Hart said.
The Tigers have had limited success in a competitive conference over the last three seasons. Next year they will return a solid core of wrestlers, highlighted by Stas Sutera, Marcus Urban, Tanner Wernsman, Brandon Scharmer and others.
DWU has taken major strides in wrestling facilities over the last three seasons. In 2016 the DWU/Avera Sports Complex was completed and has been the home of DWU wrestling for practice and competition. The new facility features a large wrestling room for training as well as an additional 85,000-square feet for the ultimate experience for duals and opens.
A search for a new head wrestling coach will begin immediately.
"We look forward to what this search will bring and the future of DWU wrestling," Hart commented.
