Wrestling competes at DWU Open
MITCHELL, S.D. The Dakota Wesleyan University wrestling squad wrestled against some of region’s best on Saturday at the DWU Open in the DWU/Avera Health and Wellness Complex in Mitchell.

Bradley Dohmen (Inver Grove Heights, Minn.) wrestled at 285 pounds for the Tigers. After losing in the first round, Dohmen came back and wrestled St. Cloud State opponent Elijah Osit. Dohmen wrestled tight with Osit, but ended up falling after a 9-7 decision.
Mitchell Messersmith (Lennox, S.D.) was defeated in the first round by Robert Ornelas, 5-0. Messersmith received a bye in the next before falling to Quinn Whitmus from the University of Mary.
Chris Wheeler (Palmdale, Calif.) received a first round bye at the 165-pound weight class. In the second round Wheeler fell to St. Cloud State opponent Devin Donovan. He later dropped his match in the second round of action to Southwest Minnesota State wrestler Hayden Voxland.
Xylon Takata (Hilo, Hawaii) dropped his first match of the day to Augustana University's Brandon Carroll by fall. He received a bye in the consolation round, and wrestled another Viking in Taylor Jeffries who defeated Takata in the second round of the consolation bracket.
The Tigers will wrestle Hastings College at 7 p.m. Thursday at the DWU/Avera Health and Wellness Complex in Mitchell.
