Tigers compete at Simpson Open
INDIANOLA, Iowa. – The Dakota Wesleyan University wrestling team had eight wrestlers compete in the Simpson Open on Saturday in Indianola, Iowa.
INDIANOLA, Iowa. – The Dakota Wesleyan University wrestling team had eight wrestlers compete in the Simpson Open on Saturday in Indianola, Iowa.
Joshua Chacon (El Paso, Texas) began his day with a close match with Joey Perez from Baker University but dropped the 10-9 decision. Chacon later fell in the consolation round. Bradley Dohmen (Inver Grove Heights, Minn.) lost his first match of the day 7-0 to Tim Mandyck of Augsburg University. Dohmen also wrestled in the consolation round falling to Ethan Hofacker of Augsburg University.
Mitchell Messersmith (Lennox, S.D.) dropped his first match of the day to Jack Vaselaar. Messersmith wrestled again against Shea Swafford of Graceland University, falling 12-3. Freshman Joseph Cunha (Schaumburg, Ill.) began his day wrestling Lance Benick of Augsburg University, Cunha dropped that match, followed by a match with Zac Stork in the consolation round. Cunha dropped the match by fall.
Tanner Wernsman (Arapahoe, Neb.) wrestled two tough opponents, dropping both matches by fall. Xylon Takata (Hilo, Hawaii), Chris Wheeler (Palmdale, Calif.), Seth Caro (Hoffman Estates, Ill.) and Cole Halouska (Worthing, S.D.) all dropped their first matches of the meet.
The Tigers will be back on the mat at the Doane Open at 9 a.m. Saturday in Crete, Neb.
