Dakota Wesleyan University '16

Nick Hutcheson took over as head coach of the Dakota Wesleyan University wrestling program in March of 2016. He returns almost his entire roster from last season. Hutcheson looks to build off last year and continue to be competitive in matches throughout the 2017-2018 season.

At the NAIA North National Qualifier last season, Matt Schirado won in the consolation semifinals and finished fourth at the tournament. Sjon Snitily also took fourth place in the 149-pound weight class.

As a team, DWU secured a win at the Midwest Duals in Kearney, Neb. They picked up a 24-18 victory over York College.

Hutcheson led two seniors to the NAIA National Championships two years ago, helping Trever Devestern attain his third All-American honor.

Hutcheson, who graduated from DWU in May 2014 with a degree in elementary education and a master's in educational policy and administration, enters his eighth year overall with the Tiger wrestling program.

Hutcheson, who wrestled at 157 and 165 pounds for DWU, had a successful career on and off the mat for the Tigers. The Elk Point, S.D., native qualified for the NAIA National Championships three times, and earned All-Great Plains Athletic Conference Second Team honors at 165 pounds in 2012. He took second at the North Region Qualifying Tournament in 2013, and took fifth in 2011. Hutcheson finished his career 10th on the school’s all-time wins list with a 65-47 record.

Hutcheson was also honored several times for his work in the classroom. He was a part of the DWU squad that had the highest team GPA in the NAIA with a 3.33, and he was named to the NWCA-NAIA All-Academic team in 2011, 2012 and 2013. He also earned Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athlete honors as a senior in 2014.

Hutcheson currently resides in Mitchell, S.D.
