DWU women’s soccer signs transfer Gomez

MITCHELL, S.D. – The Dakota Wesleyan University women's soccer team had a strong first season under head coach Clayson Glasgow in 2014. With the graduation of three key seniors, Glasgow continues to build for the future with the addition of another strong player for the 2015 season.

Lizeth Gomez, a transfer from Garden City Community College in Garden City, Kan., recently signed a National Letter of Intent to play for DWU next season. Gomez joins the Tigers as a junior and is the seventh member of the class of 2015

"Dakota Wesleyan University is very blessed to have Lizeth join our family," Glasgow said. "Lizeth will definitely bring some experience to our soccer program. I'm really excited that she chose Dakota Wesleyan University to continuing her education and play soccer for the Tigers. I'm expecting and I know she will do great things on and off the field."

Gomez is a two-time Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference All-Academic selection. The 5-foot-5 midfielder/defenseman was a member of the 2011 WAC Championship team while playing for Garden City High School.

"After my very first conversation with Coach Glasgow, I put DWU as one of my top choices," Gomez said. "He was honest, humble, yet when it came to working hard on and off the field, there was a serious sternness to his voice. I knew immediately Coach Clay would help me grow as a soccer player. Everyone has nothing but great things to say about Coach Clay and his ability to coach and mentor his team."

Gomez plans to major in pre-physical therapy at DWU. She is the daughter of Homero and Josefina Gomez.

"From the girls on the team, to the academic advisors on campus, I could easily see that everyone at DWU is there to help you grow as a student, athlete and overall as a person," Gomez said. "DWU is my best fit, both academically and athletically. I'm excited to begin my new journey as a Tiger."
