Tiger soccer teams honored with academic award

MITCHELL, S.D. – Dakota Wesleyan University is one of 210 schools to have both of its soccer teams win a national team academic award.

The Tiger men's and women's soccer teams won the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Team Academic Award for the 2013-14 academic year, it was announced Thursday. The award is given annually and to qualify a team must have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.

For the DWU women's team, this marks the sixth time the team has won the award in its history (2007, 2008, 2010, 2012, 2013, 2014), while this is the first ever honor for the men's team.

The women's team finished the year with a combined GPA of 3.17 and the men were at 3.25.0

"This achievement sets your team apart from other teams, demonstrating your program's commitment to achievement on the field and in the classroom," NSCAA Chief Executive Officer Joe Cummings said in a statement to the DWU soccer coaches.
