MITCHELL, S.D. – Dakota Wesleyan University women's soccer head coach Clay Glasgow hit the recruiting trail and signed his first signee for the 2017 season.
Madason Tessier, a native of Yankton, S.D., signed her National Letter of Intent to play for the Tigers and continue her education, Glasgow announced on Wednesday. Tessier is the first member of the 2017 class to sign with DWU.
"I had the opportunity to watch Madason play during the high school soccer season and I was very impressed with her performance," Glasgow said. "What I truly like about Madason is her ability to get behind the other team defense and be dangerous and just her overall positive energy is outstanding. We're really excited that Madason decided to join our family here at Dakota Wesleyan University to continue her education and be part of the soccer team. Without a doubt, we are very blessed to have her. Madason will do great things here at DWU."
Tessier comes to Mitchell from Yankton High School, where she played for six years with the Gazelles and was a starter for four years under head coach Tyler Schuring. The 5-foot-10 forward will add firepower to the Tigers attack as she tallied 23 goals and seven assists in her career. She received Second Team All-State, First Team ESD All-Conference and Academic All-State honors for the Gazelles, and is also a member of the 'A' honor roll. Tessier competed on the Yankton Rebels club team where she went to regionals in Ohio.
"I knew I wanted to play soccer in college and this was a place that could give me that," Tessier said. "When I met the team I instantly knew that I would fit in and be accepted because all of the girls were very outgoing and welcoming. It seemed like a school where every individual was valued and would receive the academic attention that they needed. All of these things came together and it was an obvious choice for me."
In addition to soccer, Tessier ran track for six years and was a member of the Gazelle basketball team for four years. She is the daughter of Suzanne Tessier and plans to major in psychology.
