MITCHELL, S.D. – Dakota Wesleyan University head women's soccer coach Clay Glasgow is excited to announce the signing of local product Becca Wahlen. She becomes the first Mitchell native to sign with DWU women's soccer in the last three years, while becoming the second member of the 2017 class.
"I chose DWU because I knew in my heart it was the right decision to make," Wahlen said. "I have never been more sure about anything in my life than choosing to play soccer for such a great school. It is really a dream come true."
Wahlen stays in Mitchell where she played her high school soccer for the Kernels for six years and started for three seasons. As a senior, the 5-foot-9 forward scored two goals and led her team to a 4-9-1 record. Wahlen was also named as the JV team captain for her efforts on the pitch.
It's always a good thing when you have a local student-athlete that wants to continue their education at DWU," Glasgow stated. "Rebecca is the first player that I have recruited locally and I'm really excited that she chose DWU. One of her strengths is that she will bring speed to the team. She is very athletic and that in itself could create a lot of problems for defenses. Dakota Wesleyan University is very blessed to have her."
She was named student of the week and is a member of the honor roll and National Honor Society Nominee for her academic achievements in the classroom. Wahlen also participated in basketball and powerlifting for a season. She is the daughter of Cort Wahlen and Judy Wahlen and plans to continue her education as a nursing major at DWU.
